Does anyone have any pointers on how to take care of my 20 month old African-American child's h

My little girl's hair has been the same length since she was smaller (not very long). I have tried some products like various types of hair grease, oil moisturizers, oils, etc. I need to know what types of hair products including shampoos are good for her hair and which ones to stay away from. I also welcome maintenance tips as well. Thank you all in advance.

Too many chemicals actually hinders hair growth, just try and keep it simple.......

Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo. I wouldnt worry about the length of her hair... it will grow eventually...

if you're worried about her hair not growng quickly enough just give it time. i have twin girl cousins and one has lots of hair and the other is just grownig in at 3. just oil it and brush it to keep the tangles at bay. baby shampoos are nice but ask an african american hair dresser to find race specific hair products made for children. adult shampoos aren't appropriate for her hair. one major rule for the future is - do not perm/relax her hair until she is at least 10 or 11 don't perm it at all if you can help it natural hair is the strongest. the texture of her hair should be set after age 10, and make sure to take care of the edges of her hair, braids are a nice way to let the hair "rest". i hope my rambling information helps.

I think there is a line of hair care products for little girls called "Just For Me." Right now, Johnson and Johnson baby products like the shampoo and baby oil are good. Keep her hair moist and braiding it or keeping it in pony tails will be good. Use a mild moisturizer and keep her hair clean. Brush and comb it a lot, but be gentle. I hate those hairdos with the ten million barrettes and ribbons. If you can keep her hair braided and moist, it will grow and it will look good.

I use soft%26amp;precious products for my daughter hair you can get it at any beauty supply or hair supply store. She has dry coarse hair and the detangler plus moisturizer helps keep it nice.

My advice would be to try BB Super Gro. It's by Bronner Bros. I've been using it in my daughters' hair for over 6 years now. Sometimes using some"african-american products" can be too strong for ur hair. As for maintenance tips, grease her scalp at least 3 times a week.

My friend and I swear by this site below...they have tons of info...and have pictures of how they take care of their daughters hair...just do a search for childrens hair..and some topics will pop up...I think the best approach is the natural approach..which means not using petroleum and grease...You know how grandmothers made their own pomades that made hair grow like wild fire...there are plenty of recipes here...My girlfriend has been doing it for her baby since she was little and now she is two..and her hair is thick and long..and it's natural..unpermed....but you cant even tell...(and no..her family doesnt have good hair...lol)...check the site out....

Tips to take care of your hair

It is not recommended to wash hair twice in succession, as often recommended by shampoo manufacturers. The first shampoo will wash your hair and the second will strip your hair of its nutrients. By repeating, you can irritate your scalp and overly dry your hair. HOWEVER, a long rinsing with water is a good habit, even if you are in a hurry; else, the hair will be dull and more sensitive to external irritants (pollution, etc.)

Use cold water as a final rinse; it will make your hair shinier. The cold water closes the scales that the hair has on its surface, which open when washed with hot water. Moreover, if your scalp tends to be greasy, cold water prevents dilatation of sebaceous glands and moderate sebum production.

Use mild shampoos if you want to wash often (they create fewer bubbles but this doesn't mean that they don't wash well; excess suds are more aggressive). Do not use children's shampoos, which are not soft but less galling; they contain over-greasing agents that make the hair more loose.

Use anti dandruff shampoos with care; they are more aggressive, can make hair less lively, irritate the scalp, and can actually increase the production of dandruff.

Dyeing of the hair can cause hair loss; although the products do not attack the root of the hair, they are aggressive to them and can harm the hair.

Brush carefully: strength of hair comes from the root; brushing will not give them more strength but can increase the creation of forks (split ends) and may uproot the hair. However, brushing may distribute the oils produced by the scalp throughout the hair, effectively acting as a natural conditioner and preventing oil buildup on the scalp. Be sure to use a brush with natural bristles, and never brush wet hair.

If you have forked hair (split ends), the only solution is to cut it and use a hydrating treatment to protect the new ends.

Play sports: Physical exertion increases perspiration, helping the skin to release toxins that may accumulate near the roots of hair on the scalp. Be sure to rinse your hair thoroughly after exercise to completely remove them from your hair.

If you have been using alot of different products on her hair, that's one problem. You should use Olive products. They work very well with hair like your child's. My hair was very damaged and broken because my stylist was using different products on my hair, but my sister started to use the olive products on my hair and my hair is getting better. Also if you get her hair braided every now and then that helps it grow. Once you take the braids out of her hair, deep condition it because you want your child's hair to last a long time without a perm.

Well maybe what you should do instead of looking at the hair products look at the ingredient that are inside the products that you use because a lot of companies try to sale a name an not whats good for your child's hair,an try using Dark and Lovely, Soft-Sheen Carson, Beautiful Beginnings product not the perm, The child hair care products, my Daughter had the same problem An this product has worked the best for me maybe it might work for you
