How do I take care of african american hair?

Im hispanic but I am about to have a mixed baby. Im having a little boy and I want him to have an afro when hes old enough I think that would be so cute. What shampoo and other products should I use to keep his hair managable? Im clueless about taking care of this texture of hair so please help.

The best way to manage his hair is to get it braided. When getting his hair braided the stylist usually uses grease such as BLue Magic and Softee to make sure that the hair is mositurized and managable. With braided hair, the hair can be an afro with a good comb and wash after the braids get taken out (take them out in about 3 or 4 weeks) or and go back into the braided style for the hair can grow even longer. From experience with some family members with braided hair, it grows very fast so is it gets too long just take him to the barber for a trim.

WELL CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK!!! =}

um, well, any volumizing hair products should work...but while his hair is still damp, get a comb and comb out the tangles with his hair being gently pulled up, then let it dry and keep doing it!

You have to have a certain texture of hair to have an afro,

cleary you cant have silky thin straight blone hair and get an afro.

I recommend you have the baby first, therefor you know what kinda hair the baby will have (really curly, straight, thick) and go from there.

Try some shea butter products to deep condition before washing, and don't forget to leave conditioner in for a few minutes while he plays in the water so that it has time to work.

just wait to see what type of hair he has. Just because he's going to be mixed don't mean he will have blk people hair. In the invent that he do you do nothing different than u would to your hair wash with shampoo air dry. Around 1 1/2 yrs old take to barber shop tell barber you want him to have an fro they'll know what to do.

You shouldn't use too many products on a baby. Their scalps are very sensitive. Try something very light and stick to it. More than likely, your child will have very curly hair. The hair will be short as a baby. But to maintain an afro, you should keep it cut to manageable height.

the cantu shea butter cream at walmart works good,.and smells good! and they make baby hair products for kinky hair such as this one... http://www.curlmart.com/store/product.ph...

the key is keep the hair moisturized and dont use shampooo with sulfates in the ingredients!

I have mixed hair too and it took me YEARS.. like my WHOLE life so far to find out what works for my hair..and the flat iron isnt the solution..

Check out this website, it offers lots of help about how to take care of natural kinky hair. In general the most important thing to remember when taking care of kinky hair is keeping it moisturized. Stay away from shampoos with sulfates and any products with mineral oil, petroleum, and silicones. These will dry out his hair in the long run.

Good luck and Congrats in advance.

I really doubt if your baby boy could get a fro due to he is mixed.

He should have a good grade of hair. Thick and probably curly or straight.
