Grocery stores and Supermarkets in New York City?

Does New York City (including all the burroughs) have grocery stores and supermarkets like in Texas? I'm talking about the HUGE grocery and supermarkets that sell everything! They have a large selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh fish, chicken, beef, frozen veges and stir-fry, cereals, juices (in the cartons), cheese, pasta and sauces, spices and seasonings, frozen desserts, cake mixes, muffin mixes, chips, gallon water, ziplock bags, toilet tissue, paper towels, straws, soaps, personal hygiene products, hair care products, over the counter medicines, pharmacy etc. (Don't laugh, I know I listed ALOT of stuff, but I'm trying to give a thorough explination so that the answers will be helpful.) When I went to New York I didn't see stores like this (maybe I didn't look in the right places. lol) An example of a supermarket in Texas that carries all these items (and a WHOLE lot more) is Albertson's. Do they have stores like Albertson's in New York city?

New York has supermarkets that carry fresh produce, meat, fish, baked goods, paper goods, cereals, soda, beer, pet food, laundry products, cleaning products, etc, etc etc. I don't know how big a Texas market is, but New York City's supermarkets are usually less than half the size of those upstate. Manhattan supermarkets are generally smaller than those in the other boroughs and very few of them have parking lots.

There is such a concentration of stores, we pass twenty different stores just on the way home from work - it's easy to stop and buy two bananas at a produce store, an eclair from a bakery and batteries at the drug store - no need to wait on line at a supermarket. Apartment dwellers don't buy 100 rolls of toilet paper - no place to store it.

No, in the burb's and some outer boro's yes.

1st real estate is too expensive.

2nd NY'ers are accustomed to good food and the mega-marts don't carry quality stuff. It's all factory farmed or generic name brand stuff.

3rd NY'ers don't usually shop once a week. They purchase things in smaller quantites during the week. They get bread from a bakery, fruit from a green grocer, etc. Think Quality not Quantitiy.

YES WE HAVE SUPERMARKETS. There are different types, c-town, key foods, food emporium, gristedes, whole foods (organic) and we have lots of outdoor markets, south street seaport fresh gourmet good market. there is a big vareiety for shopping. theres always afood store, maybe not as huge as as the super stores in texas but we do have regualr food stores (usually they are two floors)

The outer boroughs do..we have Stop %26amp; Shop,Waldbaums,C-Town,Food Bazaar and if you dont mind paying a membership fee try BJ's or Costco

You shop differently if you live in Manhattan and go to delis more, but the variety of what you can get is incredible and the farmer markets are like nowhere else. D'ags is prob. the best known one. Getting seafood in the northeast is also better than anywhere else (yeah I know Galveston has the shrimp boats).

If you live in the other boroughs then you'll be going to the supermarket.

Nope. Much smaller. Many are very nice but many are like you would find 20 years ago in texas. Family owned, cashier still types in the prices.

NO! I moved up here from Atlanta and would kill for a Publix. We end up just ordering our groceries online. They have little grocery stores with no selection. For produce, I go to the produce stand, for meat the butcher shop and so on. For toiletries I go to the drug store. It's kind of a pain but it's a trade-off for living in the city.

I don't know why I've gotten 5 thumbs down for this one. New York doesn't have huge grocery stores like they do in Texas.
