I'm white, but sometimes I wonder if I'd do better with products made for African Americans. I've always had a problem with dry, thick, curly hair that frizzes at the slightest hint of humidity. I'm 40-something and also use a permanent hair color in my natural ash brown color every 4 wks to hide stubborn (and increasing!) grey hairs. As I get older, the hairs that come in grey are even more dry! Suggestions?

many things can dry your hair and make it frizz, like brushing your hair. I have curly hair and I only brush it about once a week, I use a comb or my fingers if I need to. And shampoos dry your hair out, especially really curly hair. It takes longer for the natural oils to reach the end of the hair and shampoo just washes it off. It would probably be a good idea to shampoo less often and simply use a conditioner on the ends of your hair, like the bottom half of your hair.
I would try using less shampoo before buying other products. But I think trying the products for african american hair styles would be good for your hair.

use a standard hot oil treat ment and after care products for tinted or permed hair they are at the beuaty supply stores and ask a worker ther about it also if you know a beautician they will say the same thing

I'm no hair expert, but it seems like African American hair is generally pretty oily, even though it's brittle and thick. I imagine it would make your hair drier if you used it. I suggest using something for colored or heat damaged hair. Hope I helped!

African American hair needs alot of oil to protect it from the sun. Therefore any of those products would promote oil production. My friend's wife works in some kind of hair research and she tells me that shampoo strips away the outer membrane of your hair to let the nutrients in and you need to replace it by using conditioner. This is why people used to put egg or mayo in their hair. The protein builds that outer layer and promotes shine and strength.

I hear you seems to me that your hair is try all the time because from coloring day by week. that can dry it out making all your naturl oils in your hair go out of wake. I have curly hair too thats naturl. I think you need some condtion treatments in your hair to but back the oils you lots. You can always talk to the person that cuts your hair. they can give you some good tips from keeping your hair healthy and frizz free.

I have naturally curly hair.I am over 40 and I let my hair go gray. A chemical straightener can tame frizz so that your hair is easier to style;I use Olgivie hair straightener,but would suggest that you go to a hair stylist if you can. Products made for Afircan American hair are also good,but stick to the no-lye brands like Gentle Treatment. Use moisturizing Shampoos and conditioners like those containing shea butter by Fredeic Fekkai. I also am going to give you the name of a book:Going Gray Looking Great by Diana Lewis Jewell. It has tips for people who dye their hair,too.I can't dye mine because I am allergic to dyes...but I look great!

I am a hairdresser, and one awesome product is Sleek from Matrix. It is an orange bottle. It is so good you will never use another product again. I use the shampoo, conditioner and the wax polisher. The wax is great to use after you towel dry and style to smooth the frizz. Or use it in wet hair and let air dry. Remember the wax goes a long way. So does the conditioner, you will run out of the shampoo before the conditioner. Trust me you will love it.

Yes. I suggest you try Pantenes Relaxed and Natural Lines or Nuetrogena's Triple Moisture products. Most newer products for AA hair is very well formulated and provides moisture without weighing your hair down. Good luck.
